A phenomenal start to the Games seen Scot Neil Fachie and pilot Matt Rotherham seal Scotland’s first gold medal of the competition with a new Games record, beating Wales’ world champion James Ball and guide Pete Mitchell who first toppled the record.
The Scot who secured a double Glasgow 2014 gold with then pilot Craig MacLean raced last following the then leading Welsh duo, but a time of 1:00.065 bettered the Welsh’s 1:00.900 to secure a top of the podium finish.
The 34-year-old, from Aberdeen told the BBC: “Winning four years in Glasgow was truly special but it’s just as momentous here. The ride didn’t go entirely to plan but it was good enough to win.”
