Team England dominated the two para swimming events of the day with Thomas Hamer updating his Glasgow 2014 silver with a world record and Rio favourite Ellie Robinson winning in her Commonwealth debut.

Hamer’s strong start in the S14 200m Freestyle allowed him to lead the pack early before putting clear daylight between him and Australian silver and bronze medalists Liam Schluter and Daniel Fox, his 1:55.88 sealing not only a gold but another world record to his name.

16-year-old Robinson charged to victory, taking the S7 50m Butterfly in an eye watering 35.72 seconds, just six tenths of a second off her lifetime best.
