ASOS, global fashion destination, has partnered with the British Paralympic Association (BPA) to design formal and ceremony wear for ParalympicsGB, creating a ‘capsule collection’ for the team to wear as the curtain rises on the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Paralympians Lauren Steadman, Jack Rutter, Issy Bailey and Rob Oliver can be seen in the team’s official formal wear.  The athletes will be wearing the ASOS formal wear for the first time on 16 July 2016 at the ParalympicsGB Team Launch celebration in London.

Lauren Steadman, who will compete in Para-triathlon at Rio 2016 said “This is a really exciting moment as we get to meet athletes from all the different sports and come together as team mates for the first time. It’s the one time we swap our training kit for formal wear before the Games, and our bespoke ASOS outfits help make us look and feel even more like a world class team. I’m more focussed than ever now, to be able to represent ParalympicsGB on the best stage in disability sport.”

The ASOS design team have used their expertise in celebrating individuality whilst designing for a range of body types to create the team’s formal wear. Athletes will be provided with a capsule wardrobe of simple functional yet fashionable pieces to wear at a range of official team occasions – a winning collection the team will be proud to wear.

John Mooney, ASOS Creative Director Menswear & Production said, “We are proud to be the formal wear supplier for the ParalympicsGB Team and enjoyed meeting the athletes representing our country.  We enjoyed designing clothes that will make them look and feel their best at the Games.”
Their designs will be worn by over 250 selected athletes, plus support staff, on official ParalympicsGB business. This includes high profile formal team appearances, such as Team Launch, in addition to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The Opening & Closing Ceremony wear will be unveiled at the Games in Rio.

The Team Launch gala dinner is an important moment in the final countdown to Rio 2016, as it brings together the majority of the currently selected athletes who will represent Great Britain at the Games in September.  This is the only time that the athletes come together to celebrate their selection before they head off to their final preparation camps, and ASOS are the perfect partner to make sure that the team look and feel their best at this event.

There are a handful of open slots remaining on the team sheet, with the final athletes expected to be selected and confirmed later this month.

The Team Launch event is supported by long-term partner of the British Paralympic Association, Deloitte.
