PyeongChang 2018: Owen Pick the right pick for flagbearing duties

Words by Colette Carr

Here comes trouble.

When snowboarder Owen Pick got the call from the British Paralympic Association looking for a chat last night, he thought he was in for a telling.

But to his immense shock and surprise, he had been given the nod to fly the flag for Team GB in the opening ceremony tomorrow at the Olympic Stadium.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the 26-year-old said: “To represent my country under the same flag as I fought under is huge for me.

“I got a message from the British Paralympic Association on Wednesday saying they needed to speak to me after my team meeting.

“I thought I was in trouble, but I found out I was going to be flag bearer, which was amazing.

“I had no idea. I was really really surprised and happy when I found out. It’s wicked.”

Pick and his teammates will be paraded in front of the 35,000 seater at 11am GMT tomorrow. It will be live on Channel 4 and you can follow OnTrack’s commentary on Twitter.
