Tania Nadarajah nominated for sports personality of the year

Banstead-based Paralympian archer Tania Nadarajah has been nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year award at the 17th annual Asian Achievers Awards, being held on Friday 22 September to celebrate South Asian excellence.

Having only been participating in the sport for three years Tania has gone on to achieve a Team Bronze Medal at the 2016 European Para Championships in Saint Jean De Monts, France, a Team bronze at the 2015 Para World Ranking event in Almere, Holland and Third place in the Rio qualification tournament at the 2015 Para World Championships in Donauschingen, Germany, to name but a few career highlights

Women have dominated this year’s nominees list, with 22 of the 36 shortlisted contenders being female. It is one of the few times that any awards event, Asian or otherwise, has women outnumbering male nominees. The official list of nominees also includes, Vanita Patel MBE of Anti-Slavery International; England cricketer Haseeb Hameed; playwright, Tanika Gupta MBE; ground-breaking chemist, Sir Shankar Balasubramanian FRS and BBC journalist, Tina Daheley.

The 17th annual Asian Achievers Awards is returning on Friday 22nd September to celebrate South Asian excellence at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. Bollywood singer, actress and model, Raageshwari will join former Eastenders star actor Nitin Ganatra to host the glittering ceremony, which this year highlights the great strides made in the fields of Media, Art and Culture.
